Huge Fela Kuti fan! I feel fortunate to have found select audiophile reissues on vinyl. He was such a musical legend with a deep message, “muted” [too gentle a word] by the system. Heavily misrepresented and made out to be the bad guy, typical for powerful people with a voice, that can evoke deeper thinking among the masses.
Tu Pac comes to mind, clearly from another continent, generation and musical genre. Musicians standing as “heroes”, I get emotional thinking/talking about Fela, as many might Elvis.
I do not own or listen to Tu Pac, just …not my thing… however I have hugerespects for the man, the legend. He .could have. changed things, meaningfully steered a mass of people [in need] as constructive “thought leaders”
Same here with a Nigerian wife and 15 years in West-/Central Africa exposure and experience… Just posted ZOMBIE… Lisen to the lyrics and listen to Atty Todd Callendar… Fela was under military rule in Nigeria.
